YMCA Northumberland is bringing back a beloved local landmark for one last hurrah and it’s all for a good cause.
“Encore at the Midway” is a two-night community fundraiser taking place September 5 and 6 at the historic Midway Drive-In Theatre, located between Cobourg and Port Hope.
The event will feature back-to-back movie nights under the stars, complete with classic films selected by popular vote. Friday will showcase films from Hollywood’s Golden Era (1930s-1970s), while Saturday focuses on blockbusters from the 1980s to early 2000s. The first feature starts around 8:15 p.m., with a second showing at 10:30.
In addition to the films, attendees can enjoy live local music, food trucks, and surprise pre-show activities. Each carload ticket includes access to both movies and complimentary popcorn while supplies last. There are only 400 spots available per night.
Proceeds will support YMCA Northumberland’s Back on Track program, which helps at-risk youth across the county. CEO Eunice Kirkpatrick says the event is about more than just movies-it’s about building community and giving youth a brighter future.
Thanks go to BIN-IT Ltd., CUT-IT Ltd., and local Rotary Clubs for making the event possible. To vote for the films and find updates, visit: ymcanrt.org/encore.
