More than 60 women from across Ontario raised $15,000 for affordable housing during Habitat for Humanity Peterborough & Kawartha Region’s Women Build Retreat, held October 3rd to 5th at Camp Timberlane and presented by D.M. Wills.
Guided by Habitat’s professional female construction staff, participants built a 7×10 bunkie that was donated to Haliburton’s Places for People. The structure will be raffled to support a partnership creating 35 new affordable homes on Peninsula Road.
“D.M. Wills and Habitat for Humanity share a common vision — that communities are stronger when people come together to connect, build, and create lasting impact,” said Michael Lang of D.M. Wills, the event’s presenting sponsor.
Habitat PKR CEO Susan Zambonin said the retreat highlighted “how powerful community can be when people come together, learning, giving back, and building toward something lasting.”
Habitat PKR will continue the initiative through its new Women Build Workshops, beginning October 29th in Selwyn, where women can learn hands-on construction skills directly from Habitat’s female trade staff.
