Canada’s longest-running free admission folk festival returns to Nicholls Oval this weekend, with multiple acts, both national and local, taking to three stages.
The 36th annual Peterborough Folk Festival opens at 11:15 a.m. both Saturday and Sunday with the children’s parade, followed by a full schedule of performances featuring both national and local acts. Among the headliners are Joel Plaskett, Whitehorse, Colin Linden and My Son The Hurricane.
Festival board chair Rob Davis says the tradition of featuring local artists is continuing with close to half of the 30 acts from the area.
Davis says the festival remains as much a gathering of community as it is a live music showcase.
Asked what will tell him that this year’s festival checked all the right boxes, Davis says he intends to engage as many as he can for the answer.
While festival admission is free, donations made at the park help offset costs. Visit www.peterboroughfolkfest.com for the music lineup and related activities.
