Those who attend the August 25th staging of Wild Irish Geese at Millbrook’s 4th Line Theatre will see a portion of their ticket purchase go to Erin’s House, a One City Peterborough home for those transitioning from homelessness.
As an homage to the play’s writer, Meg Murphy, and her close friendship to the late Erin Sullivan, 4th Line Theatre is donating $2 from each ticket sold to Erin’s House. To date, close to $79,000 for the home’s purchase price has been gifted by Erin’s family and friends, but a balance of $146,000 remains owing.
Murphy, who named a character in her play after Erin, says her friend, who died at age 43 of complications from Cystic Fibrosis, was a staunch supporter of One City.
Murphy says 4th Line Theatre’s gesture is yet another example of the arts community stepping up to the plate to help those in need.
Murphy notes donations to Erin’s House are welcome, and can be made by visiting https://www.onecityptbo.ca/donate.
Wild Irish Geese, which details the 1825 Peter Robinson Emigration of Irish settlers to this area, continues at 4th Line until August 30th.
