A beloved local tradition is back this weekend as Primrose Donkey Sanctuary in Roseneath welcomes visitors for Ukuleles with the Donkeys, happening Sunday, July 13th from 1 to 3 p.m.
Guests can stroll among rescued donkeys while enjoying a live performance by the Colborne Ukulele Band, featuring more than 20 musicians plus a guitar and vocals.
Founder Sheila Burns says the band includes more than just ukuleles.
Light refreshments including lemonade, iced tea, and baked treats will be served. Admission is free, with donations welcome to support the sanctuary’s ongoing work.
The special event comes just weeks after the sanctuary’s 25th anniversary celebration. Despite soaring temperatures, Burns says the turnout was heartwarming, with guests including local dignitaries, volunteers, and long-time supporters.
Located at 12-96 Bowmanton Road, Primrose Donkey Sanctuary rescues, rehabilitates, and offers lifelong care to donkeys in need-many of which come from homes facing medical or financial hardship.
According to Burns, every donkey on the farm has a story.
The sanctuary is open for curbside visits Thursdays and Sundays from 1 to 3 p.m., and also encourages summer volunteers to help with daily animal care.
Volunteers are welcome any day between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m.-just bring lunch, water, and dress for the weather.
