As Northumberland County’s population ages, more people are looking for ways to stay in their own homes safely and comfortably. From home care to fraud prevention, local agencies are expanding supports to help seniors thrive while aging in place.
On October 9, the Sunny Life Recreation and Wellness Centre at 50 Seymour Quarry Road will host a Trent Hills Seniors Day, a free event featuring lunch at 12:30 and presentations beginning at 1:30. The goal is to connect older adults with programs that promote safety, health, and independence.
Brian Buchanan, Fire Prevention Officer with the Trent Hills Fire Department, says the day is designed to give seniors practical information.
Among the presenters will be the Buchanan speaking about fire safety in and around your home and YMCA Northumberland, who are hosting the event, will talk about some of the programs they offer at Sunny Life Recreation and Wellness Centre.
Buchanan says there’s also a wide range of other agencies attending, from health care to social supports.
Organizers encourage seniors and caregivers to attend to learn about resources that can help them or loved ones remain safe and independent at home.
