Cobourg’s Ghost Walks returns for October, running every Friday night plus special performances on October 29 and 30.
The guided evening tours blend local history with spooky tales, taking visitors through Victoria Hall, the old Cobourg jail, waterfront areas and other storied spots around downtown.
Experience Cobourg’s Jackie Chapman Davis says the walks proved tremendously popular after being revived last year.
Rather than a haunted-house style attraction, the walks focus on storytelling and historical context.
Guides share legends connected to some of Cobourg’s most iconic buildings, including one particularly chilling story about a restless presence said to linger inside Victoria Hall’s old courtroom – known among locals as The Courtroom Ghost. It’s one of several mysterious tales visitors can hear on the tour, each revealing a different side of Cobourg’s past.
Each walk concludes downtown, where participants can gather to unwind, grab a bite, and share their favourite stories from the night.
Tours run at 6:30 p.m. and 8:00 p.m., rain or shine; parental guidance is advised and extreme weather is the only reason an evening would be cancelled. Tickets are $15 and available at experiencecobourg.ca.
Organizers say the Ghost Walk is both a way to explore local history and to partner with local businesses in support of downtown Cobourg.
