United Way KFL&A has launched its annual Backpack Program to help local children and youth get ready for school. The program collects backpacks, school supplies, and donations to support students from kindergarten to Grade 12 across Kingston, Frontenac, Lennox & Addington.
In 2024, more than 1,000 students received backpacks and essential supplies thanks to the community’s support. This year, with the rising cost of living, the need is expected to be even greater.
Basic supplies like a backpack, lunch bag, and stationery can cost between $200 and $300 per student. United Way encourages people to donate school items or make a monetary gift so they can buy supplies in bulk at lower prices.
Volunteers will pack the backpacks in mid-August for distribution before the school year begins.
Most-needed items include backpacks, scientific calculators, math sets, pens, pencils, and more. To donate or view the full list, visit www.unitedwaykfla.ca/backpack-program.
