The City of Peterborough is reminding residents and visitors that smoking and vaping are not permitted in any city parks or outdoor recreational spaces unless in a designated smoking area.
The ban applies to all parks, playgrounds, sports fields, splashpads, wading pools, and beaches. It’s enforced under both the Smoke-Free Ontario Act and the City’s own smoking bylaw.
Anyone caught smoking or vaping in these areas outside of designated zones could face a fine of $305.
More information on smoke-free public spaces is available through Peterborough Public Health at peterboroughpublichealth.ca.
