Quinte West residents are looking at an average residential tax hike of just under five per cent.
After back-to-back special council meetings, Quinte West council has approved the average residential tax levy increase of 4.99 per cent, which will apply across the city’s four wards.
According to the city, the total municipal levy is coming in at about $92.5 million in 2026.
“The increase will raise the average annual municipal taxes for a Quinte West homeowner by $199,” said city staff, while also noting that individual tax levy rates will vary slightly, reflecting differences in local services like streetlighting and career firefighter services in wards.
The 2026 budget also includes a 2.58 per cent increase in the capital levy, which staff said will help address long-term and future costs associated with replacing and maintaining the city’s infrastructure, including roads and bridges. The capital budget is reportedly around $23.4 million.
Meanwhile, an additional 1.66 per cent of the levy is being directed to external agencies to address rising costs, including under policing and social services. The city said the balance of the tax levy increase is going towards funding municipal departments’ budgets to maintain services, inclusive of $746,000 to support resident access to healthcare services.
Final budget documents will also be posted on the city’s website.
