It’s a busy summer on Brighton roads with the next phase of the multi-million-dollar Prince Edward Street/County Road 64 reconstruction project underway.
The latest phase of construction focuses on Prince Edward between Harbour and Cedar streets. This work is anticipated to continue until the end of September and has fully shut down the road as a result.
While detours are in place, municipal and county officials continue to urge motorists to exercise caution when travelling in the area.
“We understand this brings more traffic to local streets and we want to thank residents for their patience during this construction period,” notes Morgan Scott, Brighton’s community engagement officer. “If you’re using the detour route, please remember to slow down, respect pedestrians, and be mindful of the people who live along these streets.”
To help further drive home the message, Brighton has also rolled out “drive slow” lawn signs for residents living along the detour routes. The signs can now be picked at the Municipal Centre on Alice Street, and at public works at 67 Sharp Rd. during regular weekday business hours.
After work on this stretch, crews are supposed to shift focus towards Loyalist Drive. Final paving and surface work is expected to stretch into late fall but won’t result in full road closures.
This joint reconstruction project is in year two of three, with the most urban portion of Prince Edward to Elizabeth Street set to be tackled in 2026.
