Police say nearly 47,000 illicit cannabis plants have been seized on Tyendinaga Mohawk Territory as officers continued a major enforcement effort targeting organized crime.
OPP and Tyendinaga Police Service carried out seven search warrants at six locations between Oct. 1 and 7, 2025, laying 53 charges against 24 people, reported OPP, in an update issued Monday, Nov. 17, 2025.
The latest raids follow an earlier operation on Sept. 23 and 24 that allegedly dismantled four illegal cannabis production sites. That effort led to the seizure of 72,000 plants and 21 charges against 10 people. Officers said the investigation focuses on non-Indigenous criminal networks running large-scale cannabis sites on the territory.
Police have seized about 46,700 cannabis plants valued at more than $79 million, along with four pounds of dried cannabis and a quantity of THC extract. Officers also found 3.7 million contraband cigarettes, 35,600 kilograms of fine-cut contraband tobacco, commercial cigarette-making equipment, and offence-related property worth roughly $358,400, said police, on Monday.
Several OPP specialized units worked on the operation, along with Canada Border Services Agency and multiple police partners. OPP’s provincial asset forfeiture unit is now reviewing possible proceeds of crime.
