The City of Peterborough says some of its services will be disrupted due to the Canada Post service interruption that began this week.
Property tax bills, water service bills and social services cheques will not be delivered through the mail while the disruption continues.
The city says the final property tax instalment is due Sept. 30 and offers several alternative payment options. Taxes can be paid in person at Service Peterborough inside City Hall at 500 George St. N., placed in the 24/7 secure drop box at City Hall’s main entrance, or paid online and by phone through financial institutions using a 15-digit roll number. Cheque, cash and debit payments are accepted at Service Peterborough during business hours. Credit card payments are available online through providers such as PaySimply or Plastiq, though service charges apply.
Water Services customers will not receive paper bills or notices during the disruption. Instead, residents can call 705-742-7777 ext. 2650# or email waterservices@peterborough.ca for account information or help setting up electronic billing. Payments can also be made online through financial institutions, with credit card payments available by phone.
Social Services clients who normally receive cheques by mail can pick them up in person at the Social Services office at 178 Charlotte St. between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday to Friday. Identification is required to collect cheques, letters or statements. The city is encouraging clients to speak with case managers about switching to direct deposit or reloadable payment cards to avoid payment delays.
For tax account information, residents can also register online at peterborough.ca/mytaxportal.
