The Peterborough Petes are set to open training camp next week with a reshaped roster, added experience, and plenty of competition for spots.
During the offseason, the Petes made moves to bolster their roster, including the acquisitions of forwards Lucas Karmiris from the Brampton Steelheads and Matthew Soto from the Kingston Frontenacs, along with overage defenceman James Petrovski from the Owen Sound Attack.
The team also signed draft picks Gerry DiCunzolo, Matthew Perreault, Kieran Raynor, and first overall pick Kaeden McGregor, as well as import picks Adam Novotný, Leon Kolarik and Yanis Lutz, to Standard Player Agreements
After missing the playoffs last season, Head Coach Rob Wilson says changes were necessary and he believes the work done over the past several months has the team positioned to rebound.
According to Wilson, one of the most pressing needs was scoring. He says the Petes were solid defensively last season but simply couldn’t generate enough offence.
Wilson stresses that nothing will be handed out in camp and roster spots must be earned. He says players who want to stick with the team will need to carve out a specific role, whether it’s scoring, defending, or killing penalties.
Following an intense four days of training camp, concluding with the annual Maroon and White game at 4pm on Friday, the Petes will play preseason games on Saturday and Sunday at the PMC, both against the Erie Otters.
