The weather might have been cold, but the holiday cheer certainly warmed the air.
Another edition of the ‘Loonies on the Street’ fundraiser has wrapped up in support of Kawartha Food Share. Final donation totals are still being determined but it will be north of $205,000, which General Manager Ashlee Aitken says those fundraising dollars will go a long way.
Aitken says that despite the cost of living going up, donors have continued to meet the need
The event was aided in it’s success by about a dozen volunteers, standing on street corners in the cold temperatures collecting donations.
PTBOTODAY.ca caught up with Susan Dunkley, a long-time Bucket Brigade member.
The success of ‘Loonies on the Street’ also relies on donors, including businesses, individuals driving downtown and dropping cash in the buckets, and local politicians including Mayor Jeff Leal and Peterborough-Kawartha MPP Dave Smith.
The fundraiser was broadcast live on Oldies 96.7 just outside of Peterborough Square.
Kawartha Food Share currently assists more than 14,000 men women and children every month through our 36 member agencies.
