Canada’s women’s lacrosse squad wrapped up an impressive weekend at the Atlas Cup in Sparks, Maryland, placing second in the four team pool. The competition was a showcase for the fast-paced Sixes discipline which is set to debut at the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics.
Team Canada opened the three-game event with a 22-8 win over Puerto Rico on Friday. Peterborough native Erica Evans led the way with three goals and two assists.
Canada stayed unbeaten Saturday with a 13-6 victory over Haudenosaunee, where Evans scored three more.
Sunday’s finale against the host USA determined the top spot in the standings, with Canada falling 18-11 to finish with a 2-1 record. Evans added another three-goal performance in the loss.
The weekend also featured a strong local connection with Whitby’s Madalyn Baxter and Nicole Perroni, both of whom played for the Peterborough Lakers in the Women’s Major Series Lacrosse this past summer. Perroni had a standout tournament, recording a goal and three assists against the Americans, three goals versus Haudenosaunee, and two goals and two assists in the Puerto Rico game. Baxter chipped in four goals in the opener and added another on Saturday.
Both Perroni and Evans were named to the All-Tournament team.
While there were no local players on the men’s roster, the Canadian men’s team went a perfect 3-0 to win their championship.
