The Peterborough Petes have added experience down the middle, acquiring forward Lucas Karmiris from the Brampton Steelheads.
General Manager and Vice President of Operations Michael Oke confirmed Tuesday the deal sends overage goaltender Zach Bowen, Owen Sound’s second-round pick in 2026, a fourth-round pick in 2029, and a conditional third-round pick in 2027 to Brampton in exchange for Karmiris.
“We’re very excited to announce that we’ve acquired Lucas Karmiris from the Brampton Steelheads,” said Oke. “Lucas is a right-handed centre who plays a solid two-way game. He’s a player with over 160 games of OHL experience and we feel that he will fit in very well with our current group of forwards. We’re looking forward to seeing him on the ice at training camp later this month.”
Karmiris, a 2006-born centre from Brantford, Ont., was selected 13th overall by the Steelheads in the 2022 OHL Priority Selection. Over three seasons with Brampton, he recorded 33 goals and 63 assists for 96 points in 165 regular-season games, along with three goals and one assist in 17 playoff appearances. He developed in the Brantford 99ers AAA program, where he played alongside current Petes forward Braydon McCallum.
Bowen, originally drafted by London in the fourth round of the 2022 OHL draft, joined Peterborough in a 2023 trade involving Michael Simpson. He appeared in 62 games for the Petes over the last two seasons, posting a 3.91 goals-against average and an .894 save percentage.
“I’d like to personally thank Zach for his dedication to the Petes and the City of Peterborough over the past two seasons,” Oke said. “We wish him all the best as he heads to Brampton for his OA year.”
