The City of Peterborough is observing International Overdose Awareness Day by honouring the lives lost to drug overdose and calling for greater awareness of the ongoing crisis.
Mayor Jeff Leal said the annual campaign is about more than remembrance. “International Overdose Awareness Day is the world’s largest annual campaign to end overdose, reduce stigma, and remember the friends, family, and community members we’ve lost. The overdose crisis doesn’t just shatter families; it fractures our entire community.”
The International Overdose Awareness Day flag is now flying at City Hall following a flag-raising ceremony held Wednesday.
A Community Memorial and Awareness Event is planned for today from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at Millennium Park on King Street.
International Overdose Awareness Day takes place globally on Sunday
