A 34-year-old Peterborough man arrested Wednesday morning is facing multiple new charges after fleeing from police the previous day.
On Tuesday, officers attempted to stop the man in the Simcoe and Aylmer Street area on a warrant for property-related crimes. His vehicle struck a police cruiser before he drove to Little Lake Cemetery, swam across the lake, and fled north along Ashburnham Drive toward Old Norwood Road.
A large-scale search involving the Emergency Response Team, K9, RPAS, and OPP helicopter was unsuccessful. He was later found hiding under a bed in a Peterborough County trailer by K9 Gryphon.
In addition to his original charges, he faces assaulting a peace officer with a weapon, dangerous operation, operation while prohibited, flight from police, and multiple breach-related charges. He was remanded into custody and is scheduled to appear in court on Friday.
Police thanked the public for providing tips that assisted in locating the suspect.
