Ontario is investing $56.8 million to train 2,200 additional nurses across the province, aiming to ease pressure on hospitals, long-term care facilities, and community clinics. The funding will expand nursing education at publicly funded colleges and universities and support flexible online training programs for personal support workers and registered practical nurses.
Colleges and Universities Minister Nolan Quinn says the move is a necessary step to strengthen the province’s health-care workforce.
Officials also confirm a further $7.5 million in one-time funding will provide colleges and universities with clinical supplies and lab equipment to enhance hands-on training for nursing students.
The initiative is part of a broader provincial plan to ensure better access to health care by increasing the number of nurse practitioners, registered nurses, and practical nurses across Ontario.
