Northumberland United Way has unveiled a renewed approach to community investment, designed to better respond to the region’s most pressing needs.
Applications are now being accepted for four targeted funding streams that aim to deliver greater impact for individuals and families in Northumberland County.
After listening to the community, the organization developed its new Community Investment Strategy to be more responsive, transparent, and focused. “Our new investment model now features four distinct funding streams, each designed to address specific community priorities,” said Alicia Vandine, Executive Director of Northumberland United Way.
The four streams include:
Program Investment Allocation: A restructured version of the former Annual Allocation, this stream offers core funding for registered charities delivering programs aligned with United Way’s impact areas – supporting children and youth, reducing poverty, and strengthening community wellness.
Haven for All: Focused on housing stability and homelessness prevention, this stream allows not-for-profits to assist clients in maintaining safe and stable housing.
Northumberland Eats: Dedicated to addressing food insecurity, this fund supports initiatives that improve access to food, offer nutrition education, or create innovative hunger relief programs.
Period Promise: This strategic fund helps eliminate period poverty by ensuring access to free menstrual products in the community.
Each stream has a separate application process, with clear criteria and reporting requirements. Applications can be submitted online through Northumberland United Way’s website at mynuw.org/community-funding-grants.
Applications will be accepted until 5:00 p.m. on August 25, 2025.
