Northumberland OPP say they responded to a range of calls over the weekend, including a water rescue, domestic violence arrest, and multiple criminal charges stemming from separate incidents.
On July 4, officers were called to Rice Lake near a marina in Hamilton Township for a report of an overturned boat. Two people onboard had access to life jackets and were able to swim to shore, but steep terrain prevented them from climbing out. Fire crews rescued the individuals using a boat. No injuries were reported, and the capsized vessel was removed from the lake on July 8.
Later that weekend, a disturbance at a Trent Hills residence led to three arrests. Emergency crews responded to Concession Road 3 East Sunday afternoon, where one person sustained minor injuries caused by a gardening tool. Two women, aged 52 and 58, were charged with uttering threats, and a 37-year-old man faces additional charges including assault with a weapon. All are expected in court in August.
In a separate case, a 24-year-old Cobourg man was arrested in Lindsay on July 4 in connection with an earlier domestic dispute. He faces five charges, including forcible confinement and assault. His name is being withheld to protect the victim.
And on July 6, police charged a 32-year-old from Etobicoke with impaired driving after a fail-to-remain crash on Highway 401. He also faces dangerous operation charges and received a 90-day licence suspension.
OPP remind residents to report suspected impaired drivers by calling 9-1-1.
