During the Peter Robinson Irish Emigration Bicentennial Week from August 1 to 10, Nine Ships 1825 built important connections with Irish organizations and officials.
Visitors included Irish Vice Consul General Cahal Sweeney, Cultural Attaché Aengus Finnan from the Irish Embassy, Amanda Slattery, Development Manager of Ballyhoura CLG, Mark Purdy, Chair of the Canada Ireland Foundation, and Gerry Murphy of the Boss Murphy Community Fund in County Cork. They attended multiple events and met with local community members.
Mary Smith, Vice Chair of Nine Ships 1825, said the relationships will benefit both sides of the Atlantic. She highlighted the collaboration with Ballyhoura CLG, which began in 2013, noting that joint efforts have supported successful event planning and promotion in both Ireland and Peterborough.
“These partnerships mean success for both our communities, and the legacy of this co-operation will live on into the future,” Smith stated.
