Cervical cancer screening rates are falling in Canada, with new data showing fewer women are undergoing Pap smears.
A Statistics Canada report released in 2024 found that 69 per cent of women aged 25 to 69 had a Pap test within the past three years, down from 74 per cent in 2017.
The decline is more pronounced among women at the older end of that age range.
Health officials point to Canada’s shortage of family doctors and ongoing misinformation about the test as key factors behind the drop.
