The City of Peterborough is marking National Drowning Prevention Week with a family-friendly event at Beavermead Park Beach on Friday, July 25.
Running from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., the event will feature interactive displays, games, water safety activities, a chance to try on a lifejacket, and an opportunity to meet Buddy the Lifeguard Dog mascot. There will also be information on earning a Basic First Aid certificate and prizes to be won.
Held in partnership with local organizations including Trent University, Fleming College, the YMCA, police, fire, paramedics and others, the event is part of a broader effort to raise awareness about drowning prevention.
Throughout the week, which runs July 21 to 26, City Hall will be lit blue and additional pop-up booths will be set up at locations like Fleming, Trent, and the Balsillie Family YMCA.
