The Peterborough Century 21 Lakers have turned their on-floor efforts into support for local health care.
On Friday, the Major Series Lacrosse club presented a cheque for $15,484 to the Peterborough Regional Health Centre Foundation, proceeds raised through the team’s annual Canada Day Jersey Auction. PRHC President and CEO Lesley Heighway says she’s grateful for the partnership the two formed.
The Lakers also announced a boost from Kawartha Smart Homes, who donated $5 for every goal scored by the Lakers this season. That commitment added another $1,300 to the total.
The funds will support patient care and services at PRHC, the city’s main hospital. Heighway says the foundation’s campaign helps pay for the hospital’s equipment and technology.
Team officials and foundation representatives gathered at the Peterborough Memorial Centre for the presentation, calling it a demonstration of the close ties between the Lakers and the broader community. Heighway reflects that sentiment.
