A regional police initiative focused on reducing impaired driving is already showing results in the Quinte area.
The Quinte West OPP, Belleville Police Service, Central Hastings OPP, Prince Edward County OPP, and members of the OPP Highway Safety Division launched joint Focused Patrols to target impaired drivers through data-driven enforcement.
In the first week, officers arrested four people for impaired driving — a 42-year-old woman from Belleville, a 58-year-old man from Quinte West, a 35-year-old man from Springbrook, and a 38-year-old man from Stone Mills Township.
Police also issued five three-day licence suspensions to drivers who registered a warning on roadside alcohol tests, along with several Highway Traffic Act and cannabis-related offences.
The Focused Patrol campaign runs until November 2, 2025, but RIDE programs can happen any time. Police remind the public to call 9-1-1 if they suspect an impaired driver to help keep local roads safe.
