The Tyendinaga Police Service says it has seized tens of thousands of illegal cannabis plants and a handgun with a high-capacity magazine as part of a major investigation into large-scale grow operations on Tyendinaga Mohawk Territory.
Police say the operations have caused serious environmental damage, including the complete depletion of a quarry that has negatively affected the local water table. Illegal dumping and unsafe living conditions have also been reported at the sites.
The Tyendinaga Police thanked the Akwesasne Mohawk Police Service and Hiawatha First Nation Policing Services for their assistance in the ongoing investigation.
Authorities say additional non-community members involved in the operations have been identified, and arrest warrants are being sought.
Police continue to dismantle the illegal cannabis production sites and warn that the investigation is still active. A full update will be provided once the probe is complete.
