A series of new Indigenous artworks has been unveiled at health-care organizations across the region as part of a major health equity initiative.
The Frontenac, Lennox & Addington Ontario Health Team (FLA OHT), Kingston Community Health Centres (KCHC), and Indigenous-led Three Things Consulting partnered for the year-long Indigenous Health and Wellness Strategic Advancement in KFL&A project. The initiative aimed to improve health outcomes and create more culturally safe spaces for Indigenous Peoples.
The artworks, created by Indigenous artists from Tyendinaga, Napanee, and Kingston with guidance from Elders and Knowledge Keepers, include teachings and stories that honour Indigenous approaches to wellness.
Installations have already taken place at the South East Health Unit, Kingston Health Sciences Centre, Queen’s Family Health Team, KCHC, and Addiction and Mental Health Services KFL&A. Lennox and Addington County General Hospital will host a final unveiling this fall.
The initiative also supported cultural training for staff and new inclusive policies. FLA OHT and partners say efforts to advance Indigenous health equity will continue beyond the project.
