A sexual assault case dating back to July 2000 in Belleville has ended with a guilty plea and a significant sentence, more than two decades after the crime.
Belleville Police say the outcome highlights years of persistence by detectives, forensic officers, and civilian staff who never gave up on the case. Police Chief Murray Rodd called the resolution proof of the service’s determination to seek justice, no matter how much time passes.
The case involved a July 9, 2000, assault at a west-end hotel. At the time, police were unable to identify a suspect, but the investigation continued. On April 16, 2025, officers arrested 53-year-old William Dale of Keswick. He was charged with sexual assault, assault, and theft.
Police say additional details will be released after the 30-day appeal period ends. They hope the guilty plea provides comfort to the victim and encouragement for others awaiting justice.
