Greater Napanee council has voted to hold a by-election to fill the vacant Ward 3 council seat following the passing of Councillor Dave Pinnell Jr. The decision was made after council reviewed several options, including direct appointment or selecting from previous election candidates.
Council members agreed that a by-election is the most democratic and transparent method, allowing residents to choose their representative.
Councillor Mike Schenk emphasized that the process ensures fairness and public participation.
Staff confirmed an updated voters list will be used, provided through Elections Ontario, with approximately 3,500 eligible voters in Ward 3.
Council also approved the use of up to $30,000 from the Election Reserve to cover the costs. The move underlines the council’s commitment to transparency and democratic engagement, ensuring Ward 3 residents have a voice in local government.

Also during last nights meeting, Council appointed Angela hicks as council liaison for the Market Square Advisory Committee, and Deputy Mayor Brian Calver to serve on the Aquatics Advisory Committee.
