Greater Napanee Council met Tuesday evening, October 14, and on the agenda, the completion of the town’s long-awaited 2023 audited financial statements.
After months of work by staff and auditors from KPMG, the audit was finalized. CAO Matthew Grant said staff faced significant challenges completing the audit, partly due to work left by former employees. He added that human resources and legal matters connected to the audit have been addressed and resolved.
Councillor Michael Schenk expressed relief that the audit revealed no major surprises and that all identified issues were resolved.
Treasurer Ellen Hamel said 2023 brought several financial and accounting standard changes that impacted the process. She assured council that the 2024 audit is still to come but should move much more quickly than this one.
