Golfers will be hitting the greens this Saturday for the 19th annual Lakefield Animal Welfare Society (LAWS) Golf Tournament at Liftlock Golf Club, helping keep tails wagging and whiskers twitching all year long.
In addition to the golf, guests can enjoy entertainment from Betty Baker, a silent auction, and a 50/50 raffle, with longtime supporter Pete Dalliday keeping the energy high as emcee. Following the round of golf, participants will be treated to a nice dinner.
According to LAWS Director of Operations Lyndsay Lisson-De Ell, this is one of their most important days of the year.
Events like this allow LAWS to continue operating without government grants or funding. Lisson-De Ell says community support is what keeps their doors open.
For those who can’t make it on Saturday, there are plenty of ways to support LAWS year-round, from donations to volunteering. Lisson-De Ell says giving your time is one of the most meaningful ways to help.
At any given time, LAWS cares for around 50 cats and seven dogs, often running at full capacity. Every adoption creates room to save another animal in need, something that makes each adoption doubly meaningful.
Those thinking about adopting can expect a simple process. Animals are spayed or neutered, vaccinated, and microchipped before heading to their new homes. Lisson-De Ell encourages people to take their time, meet the animals, and let the right match find them.
She credits LAWS’ success to their dedicated team of staff and volunteers, whose passion and commitment keep the shelter running smoothly.
Saturday’s tournament kicks off with registration at noon and a 1 pm tee time. Anyone interested in golfing, sponsoring, or simply helping out can find details at lakefieldanimalwelfare.org/golf or by calling or visiting the shelter.
For LAWS, it’s more than just a day of golf, it’s a chance for the community to come together and make a difference in the lives of animals who need it most.
