A Trenton man accused of driving while impaired on an electric bike is facing charges, say police.
On Friday, Oct. 31, 2025, at about 1 a.m., Quinte West OPP said officers were conducting a RIDE check when a motorist on an electric bike was stopped. After an approved alcohol screening device test was administered, police said the driver was arrested and transported to the station for further testing.
As a result of the investigation, police said a 22-year-old Trenton man was charged with operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs, and operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus.)
None of these charges have been proven in court. The accused will appear in Belleville court on Nov. 20, 2025, reported OPP.
Police also said the accused had their vehicle impounded for seven days and their licence suspended for 90 days.
The alleged incident also prompted police to issue a reminder that an electric bike is considered a motor vehicle under the Criminal Code of Canada and that rules around blood alcohol levels apply.
OPP continues to ask citizens to report suspected impaired driving by calling 911.
