A three-year-old child has died following a drowning incident at Sandbanks Provincial Park in Prince Edward County.
Ontario Provincial Police say officers were called to the park around 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, July 24, 2025, after the child went missing while playing in a shallow area of water with family members.
Before emergency services arrived, bystanders located and pulled the child from the water. The child was transported to hospital by Hastings-Quinte EMS, but despite resuscitation efforts, was later pronounced dead.
The child’s name is not being released out of respect for the family’s privacy.
Prince Edward County Fire and Rescue, EMS crews, and park wardens assisted OPP at the scene. Police also thanked members of the public who helped during the emergency.
The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to contact the OPP at 1-888-310-1122.
