A traffic stop on Hwy. 401 in Quinte West has led to the alleged seizure of suspected drugs and a loaded firearm, and a warrant being issued after a driver allegedly fled from police, says OPP.
According to Quinte West OPP, on Monday, Aug. 18, 2025, at about 7:45 p.m., OPP’s traffic incident management and enforcement team (TIME) initiated a traffic stop on Hwy. 401 eastbound near Wooler Road, after police allegedly clocked a vehicle speeding at more than 150 km/h.
During the investigation, the driver of the vehicle allegedly fled, reported OPP.
Quinte West officers, members of the emergency response team, canine unit and aviation services were called in to help with a search, which ended with negative results, said police, adding that a warrant has been issued for the arrest of the driver.
Meanwhile, a search of the vehicle allegedly turned up a quantity of suspected fentanyl, cocaine and a firearm, said OPP, in a recent release. In a social post on X about the alleged incident, police provided further details, saying a loaded handgun was seized, along with more than 80 grams of suspected fentanyl and about 40 grams of suspected cocaine.
Police said a second individual “associated with the incident” was taken into custody without incident, and officers also found cannabis and currency.
As a result of the investigation, police said a 22-year-old Ajax resident was charged with flight from a peace officer, resist peace officer, drive vehicle or boat with cannabis readily available, possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime under $5,000, possession for the purpose of distributing, and two counts of possession of an identity document.
None of these charges have been proven in court.
