Health officials are sounding the alarm after a sharp increase in drug poisonings in the Napanee area, prompting a region-wide alert from the South East Health Unit (SEHU). Since July 3, several serious poisonings, some fatal, have been linked to unregulated drugs like fentanyl and cocaine.
SEHU warns that the street drug supply in Kingston, Frontenac, Lennox & Addington is extremely unpredictable and toxic. High-potency opioids may require multiple doses of naloxone to reverse effects. Even stimulants like cocaine can be deadly, especially if mixed with opioids.
Officials urge residents not to use drugs alone, carry naloxone at all times, and access harm reduction services when possible. Supervised consumption is available at Kingston’s CTS at 661 Montreal Street, open daily from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.
A 24/7 virtual safe use line, the National Overdose Response Service (NORS), is also available at 1-888-688-6677.
Residents are asked to stay informed, avoid mixing drugs, and call 911 immediately in the event of suspected poisoning.
