Community Futures Peterborough had plenty to celebrate at its recent annual general meeting as the entrepreneur-empowering organization marked 40 years.
Local business leaders, past Community Futures clients and politicians gathered at Farmhill Weddings in Keene to reflect on the organization’s growth and success since 1985, when it began as the Greater Peterborough Community Futures Development Corporation (CFDC).
Since its inception, Community Futures Peterborough has invested more than 42 million in loan dollars, supporting 1,300-plus small businesses in the city and county. Community Futures executive director Devon Girard reflected on that track record.
Many of the event’s speakers reflected on the leadership of the late Judy Heffernan who, for 16 years, served as general manager of the Greater Peterborough CFDC.
Girard says in the face of global economic turmoil, the role Community Futures plays in small business success is huge.
