Hastings and Prince Edward Counties will mark International Overdose Awareness Day on Wednesday, August 27, 2025, with events in Bancroft, Belleville, Madoc, Picton and Trenton.
The annual global campaign remembers those lost to drug poisoning without stigma, supports grieving families and calls for action to prevent future deaths. This year’s theme, One Big Family, Driven by Hope, highlights how overdose impacts entire communities and the power of working together to heal.
Hosted by the Canadian Mental Health Association Hastings Prince Edward and local partners, the gatherings will feature Naloxone training and information on community supports.
Officials warn contaminated drugs have increased the risk of poisoning in the region. Safer drug use supplies are available at public health offices and other locations.
The National Overdose Response Service hotline is available 24/7 at 1-888-688-6677 to help people stay safe when using drugs. Event details are at cmhahpe.ca.
