A Campbellford man is celebrating a $50,000 windfall after an instant crossword ticket turned out to be a top-prize winner.
Daniel Dupuis, 76, says he’s been playing the lottery for two decades, but this is his first major win. One evening, he bought three tickets and played them one at a time after getting home.
“The last one gave me a shock,” Dupuis said, describing how he realized he had won. “I couldn’t sleep that night because of the excitement.”
The next morning, he told his wife the news. At first, she didn’t believe it, but when the ticket was validated at the store and confirmed by a representative, the win became real.
Dupuis says the money will go toward paying off his vehicle, with the rest being set aside for the future.
The winning ticket was purchased at the Centre Store on Centre Street in Campbellford.
Dupuis says while it’s taken years to land a prize of this size, the moment made the wait worthwhile.
“It feels like, ‘Yay!’ It’s just fantastic,” he said.
