An annual activity that combines the excitement of a scavenger hunt with heightened awareness of local architectural heritage is back for another year.
Organized by the Peterborough Architectural Conservation Advisory Committee (PACAC) since 1983, this year’s Heritage Hunt invites participants, until October 3rd, to identify 34 architectural details on buildings in the city’s old west end, bordered by Reid Street, Homewood Avenue, Weller Street and Monaghan Road. Those who identify all details will be eligible for prizes.
Committee chair Stewart Hamilton explains the premise of the hunt.
Hamilton says the hunt speaks to the need to preserve and protect the city’s architectural heritage by raising awareness.
Hamilton says the hunt sees participation from a wide range of people.
A map of the Heritage Hunt area and related architectural details is available at www.peterborough.ca/HeritageHunt. Hunt booklets can also be picked up at City Hall, the Peterborough Museum, the
Peterborough Public Library, the Art Gallery of Peterborough, Hutchison House, and the Miskin Law Community Complex.
