The Northumberland Land Trust has appointed its first-ever executive director.
The organization has announced that Amanda Newell has taken over the helm and will oversee day-to-day operations.
“Amanda grew up in the heart of Northumberland County,” said Rob Kennedy, president of the Northumberland Land Trust. “She had family adventures from Ganaraska Forest to Peter’s Woods, and from Cobourg Beach to Rice Lake.
“Her skills, experience, local knowledge and relationships will take the land trust to the next level of its evolution.”
In a recent release, it states that Newell has a bachelor’s degree in environmental studies from the University of Waterloo, where she focused on biology, conservation, and ecological restoration. She was most recently the partners in conservation program co-ordinator at the Kawartha Land Trust.
Newell has worked on major wetland restoration projects in the private sector, developed grassland conservation and restoration efforts with First Nations, and spearheaded various programs designed to support positive connection between humans and nature with Ontario land trusts, reads the release.
The trust said that Newell has a diverse set of skills in fundraising, project management, strategic planning, ecological stewardship, volunteer relations, public outreach and education, marketing, and collaborative partnership development.
“Working to maximize NLT’s positive impact on conservation is the best place to put my energy,” said Newell. “This land shaped me and ensuring these sacred places persist to help raise future humans who care about the natural world is a no-brainer.”
The Northumberland Land Trust has more information, including about land donations, accessible via its website.
