The Ontario government is investing $250,000 in Peterborough-Kawartha through the Seniors Community Grant Program to support initiatives aimed at promoting independence, reducing isolation, and fostering social connections for older adults.
The funding is part of a provincewide $7 million investment, supporting more than 330 community projects. Local recipients include Activity Haven, Big Brothers Big Sisters, and the Alzheimer Society, among others.
“Seniors are the backbone of our community,” said MPP Dave Smith. “This investment will directly support programs that help them stay active, connected, and thriving.”
Grants of up to $25,000 are awarded for local programs ranging from fitness classes and social drop-ins to intergenerational mentorship and digital literacy.
The province is also expanding its Seniors Active Living Centres network and supporting over 100 Seniors Fairs in 2025–26 to enhance awareness of community supports.
Minister Raymond Cho called the program a “critical lifeline” for seniors across Ontario.
