187th Port Hope Fair Sept 14-16
COUNTRY ROOTS & COWBOY BOOTS AND TONS OF FUN – TO BOOT
August 27, Port Hope: September signals it’s time to enjoy the fun and join in the activities at Port Hope’s annual fair. From Friday, September 14th to Sunday, September 16th the Town Agricultural Park will hum with activity. Against the theme Country Roots & Cowboy Boots, there will be many competitions, fun midway rides, lively entertainment, and lots of tasty treats.
“The 187th year of the Port Hope Fair promises to be a year to remember,” said Emily Field, president. “We will celebrate everything from root vegetables to historical roots as well as explore the variety that agricultural and rural living offers,” she said.
Plan your time at the fair so that you are able to take in the variety of activities. For instance on Saturday at 1:00 pm the Adams Family & Friends will hold an Old Time Country & Bluegrass Jamboree. Local singers and musicians will entertain with a fun-filled country jamboree in the tent outside the Fall Fair building.
As well on Saturday listen to Joyful Noise Choir, Kobbler Jay, Washboard Hank & Catfish Willie, and Bill Fulton & Tight Quarters. Then at 7:00 pm, there is the ever-popular demolition derby. Folks take advantage of the midway rides after the derby and throughout the fair.
“Be sure to visit the south field where the agricultural action occurs, said Greta Holmes, director. “There you can see sheep herding and shearing, the 4H beef show, a live bird of prey show with owls, hawks, eagles and falcons, the natural living tent, and an amazing display of poultry, to name just a few of the activities.”
Hundreds of men, women and children enter the many competitions, ranging from competitions for baking to beef cattle, and handcrafts to horse shows. There is still time to finish that project and enter it for a chance to enjoy prizes and ‘bragging rights.’ Check out the details in the Fair program.
Children enjoy the petting zoo and pony rides as well as presenting their pets in the pet show and the opportunity to display their musical accomplishments in the talent show. Lots of children enter the competitions. And the midway rides also appeal as do the President’s Choice Super Dogs.
The Port Hope Fair, run by the Port Hope & District Agricultural Society, is a not-for-profit organization, and a registered charity that is governed by a board of directors, elected annually. Check www.porthopefair.com for all the information about the Fair program, entertainment and activities.
