The Cobourg Police Service Board has selected Ontario Provincial Police Superintendent Tina Maier as the service’s next deputy chief.
Maier brings more than 30 years of policing experience and currently serves as commander of the OPP Security Bureau. Her career has included organized crime, anti-terrorism, traffic operations, investigations and member wellness initiatives.
Police Service Board Chair Adam Bureau welcomed Maier, noting that she brings extensive expertise to the service from her previous roles in law enforcement.
She began her policing career in Petrolia and Peterborough before moving into senior leadership roles with the OPP. Maier is a York University graduate and has completed several executive leadership programs. She is also a recipient of the Women’s Leadership Award and a Member of the Order of Merit of the Police Forces.
Cobourg Police Chief Chris Leather also welcomed the new deputy chief, echoing Bureau’s sentiments and saying he is excited that they have found the right fit for the organization.
When asked why she chose Cobourg as her new professional home, Maier said she was not quite ready to call it quits with law enforcement after many years with the OPP, and Cobourg was definitely the right fit.
Maier will become the first woman to serve in the senior command of the Cobourg Police Service. She will officially begin her new role Nov. 2, 2026.
