The 19th annual Walk A Mile took place in downtown Cobourg on Saturday, bringing a message of awareness and support to the community during the annual Harvest Festival.
The event, organized in partnership with Cornerstone Family Violence Prevention Centre, raised funds and awareness to support women, children and youth affected by gender-based violence.
Nancy Johnston, executive director of Cornerstone, was on hand to kick off the walk. She said that over the years, more and more people have become involved, with the event evolving as the years have gone by.
Participants registered outside the Cobourg Police Station before making their way through downtown as part of the walk.
Registration was $20 for adults and $10 for youth aged 18 and under, with participants also encouraged to collect pledges.
Cobourg Mayor Lucas Cleveland said the organization was truly aptly named, as it had become a part of the very fabric of Cobourg.
The event included a complimentary breakfast provided by the Lions Club of Cobourg, coffee from Pulse Coffee House and music from the Cobourg Police Service Pipes & Drums.
The walk was held alongside Harvest Festival activities on King Street, giving participants an opportunity to raise awareness about gender-based violence while connecting with residents and visitors in the downtown core.
