Alex Cahill is running for Cobourg council and describes himself as a working resident who shares many of the financial concerns facing local families, including the cost of rent and saving for the future. He says his campaign is focused on practical local issues affecting housing, community safety, accountability and the future of Cobourg.
Priorities and Concerns
Cahill says one of his primary concerns is development that he believes does not reflect the character of Cobourg. He wants municipal decisions around development to consider the community’s existing identity while also addressing the need for affordable and accessible housing.
He also identifies community safety as a priority, calling for local solutions to the overlapping challenges of drug use, mental health and housing. Cahill says municipalities across Canada are facing these issues and believes there are approaches that can improve conditions locally.
Other issues highlighted by Cahill include municipal taxation, recreation opportunities for residents — particularly youth — and greater accountability and transparency at council. He says residents should have a clear understanding of how municipal decisions are made and how public resources are used.
Why Cobourg
Cahill says his perspective comes from his experience as a working resident and from concerns he shares with others about affordability and the future of the community. He wants to contribute to finding local solutions while helping maintain Cobourg’s character.
