Todd Attridge is a current Port Hope councillor who is running for mayor. He says his focus is on managing growth while maintaining the qualities that make the municipality distinctive, and ensuring council has the information it needs when making major decisions.
Attridge says Port Hope is facing major decisions as it continues to grow. He says having complete and accurate information available to council and the community will be important as those decisions are made.
Priorities
Attridge identifies taxation and housing as two of his main priorities. He says a more diversified tax base, including industrial and commercial development, could help reduce reliance on residential taxpayers and outside funding for major infrastructure projects.
Attridge also says housing needs to keep pace with growth. He points to rental and apartment housing, starter homes, options for seniors to age in place and additional units for multi-generational families as areas where he sees a need.
What Sets Him Apart
Attridge says his combination of political experience and a business background would shape his approach as mayor. He holds a business degree and has spent the past 15 years working with executives and organizations on areas including negotiation, strategy and collaboration.
He says that experience includes working with large corporations and organizations in both Canada and the United States. Attridge says the skills involved in helping leaders collaborate and develop strategies would be relevant to the role of mayor.
Why He Loves Port Hope
Attridge says one of the things he values most about Port Hope is the way residents come together and participate in their community. He points to the municipality’s natural surroundings, heritage, downtown and agricultural areas as some of the things that contribute to its character.
Attridge says that community involvement is something he wants to see maintained as Port Hope grows. He says protecting what makes the municipality special while preparing for its future is central to his campaign.
