Adam Bureau is seeking the Deputy Mayor’s seat in Cobourg after eight years on town council. A downtown business owner and former Downtown Business Improvement Area chair, Bureau says his experience in the community and on council has motivated him to seek another term.
Bureau says his downtown business, residence and day-to-day presence in the community have allowed him to remain accessible to residents. He says he wants to continue the work he’s already started on council while building on his experience from the past eight years.
Priorities
Bureau says one of his priorities for another term would be continuing the work involving Cobourg’s police service and its senior leadership. He says there are still changes he wants to see through.
Along with police-related issues, Bureau points to his previous work with the library, art gallery and Cobourg Farmers’ Market as examples of areas where he has been involved. He also highlights efforts to support downtown businesses during the COVID-19 pandemic, including pedestrian-friendly weekends and road closures designed to give people a safer place to shop and dine.
What Sets Him Apart
Bureau says his experience on council and his involvement in the community are central to what he would bring to the Deputy Mayor’s role. He has served as chair of the police board and has also spent years operating a business in downtown Cobourg.
Bureau says that work has given him experience dealing with police leadership and collective bargaining. He also points to his time with the Downtown BIA, his small-business background and his eight years on council as parts of his experience in Cobourg.
What He Loves About Cobourg
Bureau has spent nearly two decades operating a secondhand store downtown and says Cobourg has become home for both his business and his family. He says that connection to the community is a major part of why he enjoys living and working in the town.
After eight years on council, Bureau says he wants to continue contributing to the community while building on the work he’s already done in areas including policing, downtown businesses, arts, culture and tourism.
