The Town of Cobourg is marking the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation on Sept. 30 with several activities focused on Indigenous history, culture and reconciliation.
Residents can attend free screenings of Indian Horse at 2:30 and 7 p.m. at Victoria Hall. The film explores the experiences of an Ojibway boy at a residential school and contains mature themes.
The town is also encouraging residents to explore the Waterfront Wisdom Pathway, featuring 26 banners created by Alderville First Nation artists Rick Beaver and Koren Smoke along the waterfront. Orange Adirondack chairs displaying community reflections will also be available.
Residents can also join Alderville First Nation’s Every Child Matters Walk. Participants will gather at Alderville Health and Social Services at 10:45 a.m., with the walk beginning at 11 a.m.
Cobourg will fly flags at half-mast and light Victoria Hall orange, while the Cobourg Public Library will highlight works by Indigenous authors.
